Generate a professional, itemized bill to request payment from clients for your services or products.

What Is an Invoice?

An Invoice is an itemized commercial document issued by a seller (or freelancer) to a buyer, indicating the products, quantities, and agreed prices for products or services that have been provided. It serves as a formal request for payment and creates an official record of the transaction for accounting and tax purposes.

Essential Elements of a Professional Invoice

To ensure you get paid promptly and maintain accurate bookkeeping, your invoice must include:

The word 'INVOICE' clearly stated at the top
A unique Invoice Number (e.g., INV-001) for tracking
Your business name, address, and contact information
The client's name and billing address
The Invoice Date and the Payment Due Date
An itemized list of services/products with descriptions, quantities, and rates
The Subtotal, applicable Taxes, and the Total Amount Due
Clear Payment Terms (e.g., 'Net 30', meaning payment is due within 30 days)
Payment Instructions (e.g., Bank transfer details, PayPal, or where to send a check)

Setting Payment Terms

Clear payment terms are critical for cash flow.

Net 15 / Net 30: The client has 15 or 30 days from the invoice date to pay.
Due on Receipt: Payment is expected immediately when the invoice is received.
Late Fees: You can state on the invoice that a penalty (e.g., 1.5% per month) will be applied for late payments, but this should ideally be established in an initial contract before the work begins.
